I'm Derrick Holmes. I've spent my career in law enforcement, and the job taught me a lot about authority — mostly that authority is easy to hand out and easy to take away, and it never once said anything about my character. But Lead Without Rank isn't about my job. It's about what the job kept teaching me: who you are matters more than what you're called.

A while back, my son invited me to a men's conference. I went in skeptical. What I walked out with was an image I haven't been able to put down since — still water, a rock, and the ripples spreading out from it. Here's what I realized sitting there: I'm not a finished product. I'm evidence of movement. That's become the honest posture behind everything I make here.

I'm a husband and a father, and I get that wrong as often as I get it right. That's actually the point. The lessons that have changed me didn't show up in the big moments. They showed up on a Tuesday, in the car, in a conversation I almost skipped.

I'm a Christian, and I'm new to it — still learning. My faith shows up here honestly and personally, not as a sermon. If that's not your thing, you're still welcome. I was a skeptic for a long time too.
